Black Women Rising is a grassroots organization that centers the voices of black women on issues of reproductive health, rights and justice, healthcare, environmental racism, climate change, and trauma. We are dedicated to building collective power with black women, faith leaders, and community members in order to advance policies that address gender, economic and racial inequities and be responsive to trauma and healing for black women.
Black Women Rising has three goals:
Goal 1: To drive a collective narrative to dismantle structural, institutional, spiritual and political hegemony which has resulted in oppression, spiritual repression, body politics, poor health outcomes, racial, economic and gender inequities and transgenerational trauma.
Goal 2: To amplify the voices of black women validating ourselves as thinkers, fighters, strategists, influencers, power brokers and owners of our stories and narrative.
Goal 3: Advance the leadership of black women socially, economically, spiritually, and politically to dismantle the personal and communal effects of patriarchy, oppression, misogyny, and white supremacy that continues to perpetuate inequality, harm and trauma.
The mission of Black Women Rising is to center the voices of black women to grow their leadership and power, and to establish a safe haven for Black women consistently challenged by the issues of the world to empower, teach, and guide them into full transformation.
We center the voices of black women, and women of color on issues we care about and to influence and advance policies with the black woman in mind while having a seat at the decision-making table. Black Women Rising will shape a collective narrative to dismantle structural, institutional, spiritual and political hegemony regarding the black woman’s experience from slaves to the sanctuary; which has resulted in oppression, spiritual repression, lack of access to healthcare and decisions being made over our bodies, racial and economic inequality, intergenerational harm and trauma.
We envision a world where Black women and those who identify as Black women are unapologetically altering and creating spaces to be visible, free, and whole.
Black Women Rising will develop an agenda that will identify with our past and not hold it against us. We will ensure that doors are opened for black women and women of color by investing in one another and reaching back to open doors for our Sisters.
Black Women Rising will build legacies for young woman and teach, train and transform their stories while shaping an understanding of their power, value and worth. We will develop a playbook with transformative outcomes while embodying our personal transformation, breaking cycles of trauma and creating healing spaces of justice one woman at a time.
